Sonatina for Solo Piano (2015)
Instrumentation: Piano.
Description: This piece is a blend between Ravel, Debussy, Stravinsky, and the piano-concerto template of Rimsky-Korsakov. It has a few harp-like moments inspired by Ravel, as well as several Debussy-esque flowing arpeggios and melodies. Stravinsky’s influence is eminent in some changing meters. The piece is three movements blended together with a few different motives introduced throughout the first and second movements and brought back in the third, a choice picked up by the Rimsky-Korsakov. The first and third movements have very similar endings as well, and each one flows into the next. They follow a more dissonant harmonic language, contrasting the second movement with lots of running “waterfall”-esque arpeggios.
